Artist's Description
Situated on the North Fork of the Virgin and upstream of the main canyon, "The Narrows" is my favorite section of Zion Canyon in Zion National Park. My goals was to create an image that showcased the movement of the rapids, along with the fall colors that were reflecting in the river. Trust me when I say the river was cold that day. But with the help of a good friend, I was able to make it up river and take this image.
About JoAnn Silva
Having a Grandfather who was an artist, an uncle who was a pioneer of mid-century modern architecture and a father who was a painter, ensured that JoAnn Silva was surrounded by inspiring art at a young age. Her grandfather created a studio in his home for his young grand daughter and at the age of three JoAnn Silva began painting, igniting her life long obsession with all things visual. However, it was during her years studying at Point Loma High School that she began to formally learn the skills of a trained artist. This formal training and disciplined approach to painting, photography and design continued as she pursued a Degree in Fine Art at the United States International University in San Diego.
