Often I feel that only Black & White images can create dramatic effects that color just can't convey. The southwest and the historical record of the landscape is the perfect subject for Black & White photography.

Having a Grandfather who was an artist, an uncle who was a pioneer of mid-century modern architecture and a father who was a painter, ensured that JoAnn Silva was surrounded by inspiring art at a young age. Her grandfather created a studio in his home for his young grand daughter and at the age of three JoAnn Silva began painting, igniting her life long obsession with all things visual. However, it was during her years studying at Point Loma High School that she began to formally learn the skills of a trained artist.
