Artist's Description
Monument Valley, Arizona is simply the icon of the southwest. Movies with John Wayne are part of the America culture as are the Navajo Indians who live and own the land. Seeing it for the first time is an event that one is sure to never forget. As the sun rises in the east in backlights the buttes, curving around them ever so slowly to reveal more and more details of their shear magnificent. I shot this image at 4:30 a.m. during summer as the sun first started to rise. I was blessed to have just the right amount of sunlight and clouds that morning.
About JoAnn Silva
Having a Grandfather who was an artist, an uncle who was a pioneer of mid-century modern architecture and a father who was a painter, ensured that JoAnn Silva was surrounded by inspiring art at a young age. Her grandfather created a studio in his home for his young grand daughter and at the age of three JoAnn Silva began painting, igniting her life long obsession with all things visual. However, it was during her years studying at Point Loma High School that she began to formally learn the skills of a trained artist. This formal training and disciplined approach to painting, photography and design continued as she pursued a Degree in Fine Art at the United States International University in San Diego.
